Yin and Yang in medicine

Our organism is divided in yin and yang, the upper body is yang and the lower body is yin. The back is yang and the abdomen is yin. The skin is yang and the internal lining is yin. Even within the body one can classify the various organs as yin and yang. Hollow organs are yang, such as the stomach, the large intestine, the small intestine, the gallbladder and the bladder. Full and compact organs are yin, such as the heart, the liver, the lungs, the spleen and the kidneys.

Yin organs are in charge of the storage and transformation, while yang organs are in charge of assimilation, absorption, and elimination. All organs work in association, and together they form a dynamic equilibrium between the yin and yang forces that circulate the body.
