Acupuncture

As previously stated acupuncture or "healing with needles," is part of traditional Chinese healing techniques.

In Italy acupuncture represents a successful therapy, which can be practiced by medical school graduates. The needles used for this procedure are made of steel, some of the most commonly used are portrayed below.

The needles are placed in the skin, in areas considered to be energy centers. There are three hundred seventy main energy centers and over one thousand in all. Each and every point has a particular energy function, some accelerate, delay, connect, generate, contrast, and so on.

The effect of the needle on the energy center varies depending on how the needle is placed (vertically, diagonally favoring or opposing the energy flow). The depth at which the needle is placed has an effect as well, along with the movement done by the needle once it’s placed up until it’s removed. The speed at which its inserted and extracted, the amount of time it is remains in the skin together with many other variables are important in reaching the desired effect.

All professional acupuncture practitians know the function of all energy centers and how to reach the best results using the numerous techniques above described.

As in all medical practices some restrictions do apply. In people suffering from infectious diseases, psychiatric diseases and physical fatigue acupuncture may cause unwanted side effects. Pregnant women should abstain from the practice for acupuncture may stimulate energy centers which accelerate uterine contractions and birth.

There are also some rare side effects, which include fainting, dizziness, puncturing of arteries and veins… and no improvement at all!
