Products for the hygiene and maintenance

Most of the objects present in today’s households are artificial or have become artificial. Even objects that we believe to be made of wood are coated several times with synthetic varnish, thus behaving like plastic (attract dust, creating electrostatics in the air).Since the fifties trends and fashion have encouraged society to want surfaces of furniture and floors to be shiny and mirror like, household environments to be aseptic and unmarked by time. Today we must look back and acquire once again the taste for live materials. Those materials that are marked by time, and with the passing years acquire a patina which increases their beauty.

The use of artificial substances (such as those used in cleaning) is the primary cause of internal pollution. These materials are composed by tension- actives, phosphates, chloride solvents, aromatic solvents, phenol and formaldehyde compositions, strong alkaline and acids, and more. These products frequently cause dangerous accidents, often caused by mixing products to make them more efficient. The constant and continuos exposure to these harmful substances may also cause skin and respiratory problems.

The use and abuse of chemical products used for the household’s hygiene is giving way to a new pollution, "clean" is contrasting health. In most cases vinegar, bicarbonate, water and ammonia, and citric acid detergents are perfect substitutes for chemical detergents. Appliances which use vapor to clean are easily managed and disinfect all surfaces they come in contact with, without using chemicals. To remove dust without harmful consequences one can use a humid cloth, which is to be constantly rinsed. If employing a vacuum cleaner, make sure it has an efficient filtering system so the dust is not emitted once again in the air. To be absolutely sure that both dust and its contaminants are eliminated, it is advisable to install a centralized suction system in the vacuum cleaner.

There are many products which contain animal and vegetable originated tension- actives, which are used to wash clothes, even at lower temperatures. When washing dishes one is to remember that often residue of detergents are left on the plates, and are assimilated with food, thus ingested. To reduce the risks of ingesting harmful pollutants it is advisable to reduce the dosage of plate detergent used, and when possible use biological detergents.
To fight off insects it is better to reduce the use of insecticides containing highly toxic components (hydrocarbon chloride and organic phosphates), for they may cause irritation to the eyes and respiratory system.

Furthermore the accumulation of these substances in the organism may damage the central nervous system, respiratory apparatus, kidneys, and increase the risk of cancer. A few traditional method may be sufficient to reduce the presence of insects, such as applying screens at doors and windows and cleaning with vinegar (much disliked by insects) floors and kitchen. To eliminate roaches one must clean meticulously and periodically place borax powder in all corners of the house.
